One doesn’t automatically link beer with art but, with the resurgence of microbrewing in America and the heights it has achieved in both craft and popularity in the past few decades, an event like Telfair Museum’s Art On Tap makes good sense. Wine has always been seen as a perfect fit with fine art. The art that is presently going into America’s craft brewing scene has pulled it to a similar level of distinction and appreciation.
Savannah’s Telfair Museum is the oldest public art museum in the Southeast, having opened its doors to the public in the 1880s. With a permanent collection of approximately 4,000 works of art from around the world, a manicured campus containing three architecturally-significant buildings, and a history of educational programming, community outreach, and exciting exhibitions, where else would you stop first for culture in Georgia?
The Jepson Center, which holds more than 7,500 square feet of gallery space, opened on the Telfair Museum campus in 2006. Devoted to contemporary art, the Jepson Center links the Telfair Museum’s future with its past.
The diverse, contemporary collection of the Jepson Center makes it the perfect venue for Art on Tap: fine, hand-crafted beers and wines mingling in a singular, Savannah-style happy hour with art of a similar pedigree. Each month, the Jepson Center’s Art On Tap event will feature a different brewery and winery selection, with staff on hand to answer questions about the beverages. Light appetizers are also available and, of course, museum admission is part of your ticket.
