Tybee Polar Plunge 2015

Tybee Polar Plunge 2015In Savannah and looking for a unique and fun way to celebrate the New Year? Take the 2015 Tybee Polar Plunge!

What is the Tybee Polar Plunge?

Take the freezing Atlantic waters off of Georgia’s Tybee Island on New Year’s Day and add your rightfully shocked and complaining body: That’s right: you throw yourself into the frigid surf – and that’s the Tybee Polar Plunge in a nutshell.

The Tybee Polar Plunge began as a bit of a joke among friends some 15 years ago. Since then it has grown in size to become a surprisingly big event – so much so that they set a world record in 2012 for the largest gathering of people in swim caps!

The Tybee Polar Plunge is not just a simple dash into the icy waves, either – it also includes the “Gang of Goofs” costume contest and parade: You and two or more of your friends can make the event even more entertaining and surreal by dressing up in wacky costumes for laughs and prizes in the “Gang of Goofs” costume contest and parade. Winners will be announced immediately prior to the Polar Plunge and the first place team will receive the “Gang of Goofs” trophy, to be engraved with the team’s name and displayed at the location of their choice for an entire year!

Tybee Polar Plunge 2015 is scheduled for 12, noon on New Year’s Day at the Tybee Island Pier and Pavilion. The “Gang of Goofs” parade starts at 11am from the base of the Tybee Island Pier.

Registration is required for you to be an official part of the Tybee Polar Plunge and to enter the “Gang of Goofs” contest. You can download registration for either or both at the Tybee Polar Plunge website or at the event but it is recommended that you register in advance to avoid the inevitable lines.
