The annual Savannah Music Festival is a 17-day, multi-genre celebration of the musical arts. The festival is the largest musical arts event in Georgia. Renowned musicians from around the world come to perform. The festival includes jazz, classical, pop, folk, traditional music and more at numerous downtown venues.
This year’s festival lineup promises to be more diverse than ever before. Along with the concerts and recitals, the festival is also bringing film and dance productions.
While jazz and classical music remain the main focus of the Savannah Music Festival, pop music is also prevalent. 2017 sees the inclusion of The Avett Brothers, Jason Isbell, Nikki Lane, and Richard Thompson.
Other highlights include centenary celebrations of both Thelonious Monk and Dizzy Gillespie. Marcus Roberts, Terell Stafford, Jason Marsalis, Ron Westray and a dozen other jazz musicians will take part.
The popular Savannah Music Festival Piano Showdown returns this year, as well. Look for Chucho Valdés, Danilo Pérez, and the Joe Alterman Trio.
The chamber music series of the festival is set to feature the Dover Quartet, Ébène Quartet, Lawrence Power, Edgar Meyer, David Finckel, and Wu Han. The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, led by maestro Robert Spano, will deliver all-Rachmaninov program, featuring pianist Stephen Hough. The Savannah VOICE Festival is co-producing two nights of Arias and Encores.
