It’s almost time for the annual return of the Savannah Blues, Jazz & BBQ Festival on River Street. If you like sweet and smokey southern blues, jazz, and barbecue then this is one free festival you shouldn’t miss! It all happens during Savannah Blues Weekend, June 30th through July 2nd, 2017.

If you’ve never been to a sand sculpture contest, you’re in for a real treat. Not only do you get to enjoy Tybee Island’s beaches, you also get to watch talented artists create art from sand. The beautiful and intricate works these talented teams can create with sand is absolutely amazing.
“SCAD” is the Savannah College of Art and Design and the annual SCAD Sand Arts Festival has become a very popular event over the years. The festival is a sand sculpture competition between SCAD students, alumni, and faculty. Local high school students also compete but in their own category. (more…)

The Savannah Asian Cultural Festival, held on the Armstrong State University campus, is once again bringing the rich diversity of the people of the Asian continent to Georgia. This popular celebration of all things Asian grows in scope and popularity each year, and 2017 is already turning out to be no exception.
The popular, annual event is not about the distant Asia but rather the first- or second-generation Asians here who have become a part of the area’s cultural fabric. Take a step back in time to a Christmas past during the annual Tybee Island Lighthouse Christmas tour. Visit the lighthousekeeper’s world of the 1930’s and 40’s from 7 to 9pm on December 10th and 17th, 2016!
Tybee Island Lighthouse has been a part of the Georgia shoreline in one form or another since 1736. Lighthouse keepers lived alongside the lighthouse up until 1948. Many of those charged with keeping the lighthouse lived on the grounds with both assistants and often their immediate families. Consequently, many holidays have been celebrated at the Tybee Island Light, including, of course, Christmas.

Tickets are on sale now for The Next Generation’s BBQ Brews and Bluegrass: November 20th, 2016 at Villa Marie on Isle of Hope!
BBQ Brews and Bluegrass – it sounds like something worth waiting for, doesn’t it? That’s because it is and folks have been! The original date for The Next Generation’s annual event was October 16th but Hurricane Matthew had other ideas!
An annual affair benefitting the Dwaine & Cynthia Willett Children’s Hospital of Savannah, the Next Generation’s BBQ Brews and Bluegrass is family friendly with lots to entertain the kiddies. There will be bounce houses, face painting, arts and crafts, a rock climbing wall, and more.
But don’t get the wrong idea. This festival is not just for kids or even aimed specifically at kids. The title mentions brews because there will be plenty of domestic and locally brewed craft beers on hand for the big “kids” to enjoy. That’s a third of the draw! (more…)
