2015 Savannah Tour of Homes & Gardens

Started in 1935 as a way to raise charity money during the Great Depression, the Savannah Tour of Homes & Gardens has continued to this day. Now in its 80th year and grown in size and scope, the Savannah Tour of Homes & Gardens continues to support charities, both local and international, as well as community projects, and the promotion of historic Savannah as a place worth visiting, preserving, and cherishing. Historic Homes of Savannah

Savannah has the largest urban landmark historic district in the country, so it’s no surprise it is known for its many lovely, historic homes.

It’s impossible to remain impervious to the architectural charm of this city. A morning stroll down Broughton Street or to one of Savannah’s historic squares brings you past dozens of beautifully maintained, historic homes, like our very own Savannah Vacation Homes. The more you see, the more you want to see.

Architectural tours of Savannah

Each spring, many private homes open their doors to the public during the Annual Savannah Tour of Homes and Gardens. Some of these homes have been in the same families for generations, and are full of wonderful antiques. It’s never too early to make plans to attend the Savannah Tour of Homes and Gardens, which will next occur March 21-24, 2013.

Special Holiday Events in Savannah

December is a great time to spend a few days at one of our Savannah Vacation Rentals, for special holiday events take place throughout the month. We hope you’ll find time to partake in at least one of the following activities, whether you come to town for business or pleasure.

Relax with friends and family at the Mary O’Connor House while in Savannah during the holidays.

Santa Cruise along the Savannah River. Join Santa for a narrated sightseeing cruise aboard a newly remodeled historic riverboat. Fun for children and adults. Santa Cruises take place Fridays and Saturdays through mid December, 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.

Savannah Riverboat Christmas Gospel Dinner Cruise. Enjoy a tasty southern buffet and live Gospel music while cruising along the scenic Savannah River. Santa will be in attendance, too. 7:00 p.m., December 12 and 19, 2011.

The Christmas Tradition Show. Glitz and glitter adorn Santa and his helpers during this entertaining Christmas show at the historic Savannah Theatre.

Old Town Trolley – Holly Jolly Tour through historic Savannah. Sing carols as you pass festively decorated historic homes. Stop at the Isaiah Davenport House for cookies and cider and a tasted of a typical 19th century family holiday. Stop at the Savannah Candy Kitchen for a yummy treat and a discount on any purchases. There is a also a surprise guest each night. Runs through December 23, 2011.

Early 19th Century Holiday at the Davenport House. Tour a lovely historic home and learn how the Davenport household celebrated the holidays nearly two hundred years ago. Weekdays and Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. (the last presentation begins at 4:00 p.m.), and Sundays from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.

Tybee for the Holidays. Watch the lovely Tybee Floating Christmas Parade on December 10 at 7:15 p.m. Visit festively decorated shops any day of the week for gifts.

Horse drawn Santa Sleigh Rides. Perfect as a romantic evening or a fun outing with the kids. Snuggle under a blanket, drink hot cocoa, and experience the magic of Christmas as you tour the Savannah historic district.

Christmas in Savannah

Few places are as lovely when dressed for the holidays as the historic district of Savannah.  Decorations include thousands of lights along River Street, an enormous Christmas tree in Forsyth Park, and evergreen boughs and red bows along city squares. Grand old homes are elegantly clothed in evergreen wreaths and lit by candles.

During December in Savannah, one of the most pleasant and relaxing pastimes is simply admiring the beauty of the city. Enjoy it as you stroll through the historic district on your way to and from our luxury Savannah vacation rentals.
