One doesn’t automatically link beer with art but, with the resurgence of microbrewing in America and the heights it has achieved in both craft and popularity in the past few decades, an event like Telfair Museum’s Art On Tap makes good sense. Wine has always been seen as a perfect fit with fine art. The art that is presently going into America’s craft brewing scene has pulled it to a similar level of distinction and appreciation.
Savannah’s Telfair Museum is the oldest public art museum in the Southeast, having opened its doors to the public in the 1880s. With a permanent collection of approximately 4,000 works of art from around the world, a manicured campus containing three architecturally-significant buildings, and a history of educational programming, community outreach, and exciting exhibitions, where else would you stop first for culture in Georgia? Leo Villareal’s work is on view through June 3, 2012. A pioneer in the use of LEDs and computer imagery, Villareal has garnered acclaim for his architectural, site-specific works and his light sculptures. The exhibit at the Jepson Center is his first major traveling exhibit.
Also on view at the Jepson Center is Fresh Focus: Contemporary Photography from the Permanent Collection (through July 8, 2012). Fresh Focus showcases some of the museum’s most impressive photographic holdings.
