Tybee Mardi Gras 2018New Orleans may be hours away but it will feel like the Big Easy right here in Savannah on February 10th, 2018 during the 10th annual Tybee Mardi Gras celebration!

Mardi Gras is not just a New Orleans holiday – it is celebrated all over the world. Though the festival dates back thousands of years to Roman fertility rituals, the celebration has evolved. It is now primarily a Catholic event held every year between The Epiphany and Ash Wednesday.

Celebrate Tybee Mardi Gras!

Tybee Mardi Gras 2016The 9th annual Tybee Mardi Gras celebration on Tybee Island is scheduled for January 30th, 2016 – come out and enjoy this lively, colorful, traditional carnival holiday!

Mardi Gras is celebrated here in the US and all over the world. The festival dates back thousands of years to early, Roman fertility rituals, though has now evolved into a primarily Catholic event – but you don’t have to be Catholic to attend or enjoy the festivities! Mardi Gras was first celebrated in what was to become the United States in 1703 by French soldiers in Fort Louis de la Mobile – what we now call Mobile, Alabama.
